Air fryer churros are a lighter take on the classic Spanish treat, offering the same crispy exterior and soft, doughy inside with less oil and mess—perfect for a quick and delicious dessert or snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for coating)
  • Cooking spray or oil for greasing

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine water, butter, sugar, and salt. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and stir in the flour until a dough forms. Cook for 1-2 minutes until it pulls away from the sides.
  2. Remove from heat and let cool for 5 minutes. Beat in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla. Stir until smooth and glossy.
  3. Transfer dough to a piping bag fitted with a star tip.
  4. Spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Pipe churros directly into the basket in 4-inch lengths.
  5. Air fry at 375°F (190°C) for 10–12 minutes, or until golden and crispy.
  6. While still warm, roll churros in a cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  7. Serve immediately with chocolate sauce or dulce de leche for dipping, if desired.

Notes

  • Letting the dough cool before adding eggs prevents scrambling.
  • Use a strong piping bag, as the dough is thick.
  • Churros are best served fresh but can be reheated in the air fryer for a few minutes.
