A crispy, melty, and savory sandwich featuring tender chicken, smoky ham, and gooey cheese. Made quickly in the air fryer, this sandwich is perfect for lunch, dinner, or a hearty snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Makes 4 sandwiches:

  • For the sandwiches:
    • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (thinly sliced or pounded to 1/2 inch thickness)
    • 4 slices of deli ham
    • 4 slices of Swiss or cheddar cheese
    • 4 sandwich buns or rolls
    • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • For seasoning:
    • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
    • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Optional toppings:
    • Dijon mustard
    • Mayonnaise
    • Lettuce or baby spinach

Instructions

  1. Prepare the chicken:
    • Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
    • Season the chicken breasts on both sides with garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
  2. Cook the chicken:
    • Place the seasoned chicken breasts in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Air fry for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the chicken is fully cooked (internal temperature of 165°F / 74°C).
  3. Assemble the sandwiches:
    • Place a slice of ham and a slice of cheese on each cooked chicken breast.
    • Open the sandwich buns and brush the inside with melted butter. Spread mustard or mayonnaise on the buns if desired.
  4. Toast in the air fryer:
    • Place the bottom half of each bun in the air fryer basket. Add the chicken topped with ham and cheese, and then place the top half of the bun slightly off to the side (so it doesn’t get too soggy). Air fry for 2-3 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the buns are toasted.
  5. Serve:
    • Remove from the air fryer and assemble the sandwiches. Add lettuce or spinach if desired. Serve warm.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, drizzle a little honey or hot sauce on the sandwich before serving.
  • If your chicken breasts are too thick, slice them horizontally or pound them thin to ensure even cooking.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat in the air fryer for a few minutes.
