Baked Cabbage Casserole with Ritz Crackers is a creamy, comforting side dish made with tender cabbage, a rich cheese sauce, and a buttery cracker topping for added crunch.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 medium head green cabbage, chopped
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom or cream of chicken soup
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 sleeve Ritz crackers, crushed
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet, melt 2 tablespoons butter over medium heat. Add chopped cabbage and diced onion. Cook for 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until cabbage is tender.
  3. In a large bowl, combine cooked cabbage mixture, soup, sour cream, and shredded cheese. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Transfer mixture to the prepared baking dish and spread evenly.
  5. In a separate bowl, mix crushed Ritz crackers with 2 tablespoons melted butter. Sprinkle evenly over the casserole.
  6. Bake for 25–30 minutes, until the topping is golden brown and casserole is bubbly.
  7. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Use cream of celery soup for a vegetarian version.
  • Sharp cheddar or a mix of cheeses adds more flavor depth.
  • Can be made ahead and refrigerated before baking.
