Crispy, oven-baked asparagus spears coated in Parmesan and breadcrumbs—a flavorful, healthier alternative to traditional fries.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450 g) fresh asparagus, trimmed
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • ½ cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • Salt & freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Lemon wedges, for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425 °F (220 °C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a shallow bowl, mix Parmesan, panko, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Toss asparagus in olive oil until evenly coated.
  4. Press each asparagus spear into the Parmesan–breadcrumb mixture to coat all sides.
  5. Lay coated asparagus in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Bake for 12–15 minutes, turning halfway through, until golden and crisp.
  7. Remove from oven and transfer to a serving platter.
  8. Serve immediately with lemon wedges for squeezing.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, broil on high for the last 1–2 minutes—watch closely to prevent burning.
  • Gluten-free option: substitute breadcrumbs with crushed gluten-free crackers or almond flour.
  • Add a pinch of chili flakes or grated Parmesan after baking for extra kick.
  • Serve as a snack, appetizer, or side dish alongside grilled proteins.
