Ingredients

Scale
For the Chicken
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (or 6 chicken thighs)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ cup cornstarch (for a light crispy coating)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
For the Honey Garlic Sauce
  • ⅓ cup honey
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • ¼ cup soy sauce (low sodium recommended)
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar (or rice vinegar)
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil (optional, for extra flavor)
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch + 2 teaspoons water (to thicken)
For Garnish
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • 2 tablespoons green onions, chopped

Instructions

1. Prep & Sear the Chicken
  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
  2. Pat the chicken dry with paper towels and season with salt, pepper, paprika, and garlic powder.
  3. Lightly coat the chicken in cornstarch, shaking off any excess.
  4. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  5. Sear the chicken for 2–3 minutes per side until lightly golden (it will finish cooking in the oven).
2. Make the Honey Garlic Sauce
  1. In a small saucepan over medium heat, whisk together honey, garlic, soy sauce, vinegar, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes.
  2. In a small bowl, mix 1 teaspoon cornstarch + 2 teaspoons water and stir it into the sauce.
  3. Simmer for 1–2 minutes until slightly thickened.
3. Bake the Chicken
  1. Place the seared chicken in the prepared baking dish.
  2. Pour the honey garlic sauce over the chicken, making sure it’s evenly coated.
  3. Bake uncovered for 20–25 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C).
  4. Spoon extra sauce over the chicken before serving.
4. Serve & Garnish
  1. Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions.
  2. Serve hot with steamed rice, roasted veggies, or noodles.

Notes

  • Swap chicken breasts for boneless thighs for a juicier texture.
  • Use maple syrup instead of honey for a different sweetness.
  • Want it crispier? Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 15 minutes, then broil for 2–3 minutes to caramelize the sauce.
