This classic beef and broccoli stir-fry is quick, easy, and full of bold Asian-inspired flavors. Tender slices of beef are cooked with fresh broccoli in a savory garlic and soy-based sauce. It’s perfect served over rice or noodles for a satisfying weeknight dinner.
1/2 cup low-sodium soy sauce
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1 tablespoon oyster sauce
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger (or 1/2 tsp ground)
1/2 cup beef broth or water
1 tablespoon sesame oil (optional)
1 lb flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
2 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
4 cups fresh broccoli florets
Cooked white rice, for serving
Make the sauce: In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, cornstarch, oyster sauce, garlic, ginger, beef broth, and sesame oil. Set aside.
Cook the broccoli: In a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat, add 1 tablespoon oil. Add broccoli and a splash of water. Stir-fry for 3–4 minutes until crisp-tender. Remove and set aside.
Cook the beef: Add remaining oil to the pan. Add sliced beef in a single layer. Cook for 2–3 minutes per side until browned.
Combine: Return broccoli to the pan. Pour in the sauce and stir everything together.
Cook for another 2–3 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the beef and broccoli.
Serve hot over steamed rice.
Flank steak works best but sirloin or skirt steak also work well.
For extra flavor, marinate beef in 1 tablespoon soy sauce and 1 teaspoon cornstarch before cooking.
Add red pepper flakes or sriracha for a spicy kick.
