This homemade Butterbeer is sweet, frothy, and full of rich butterscotch and vanilla flavors. Whether served warm or cold, it’s a magical drink perfect for Harry Potter movie marathons, themed parties, or cozy nights in.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Drink:

  • 2 cups cream soda (chilled)
  • 2 tablespoons butterscotch syrup (plus extra for drizzling)
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter (optional for a richer taste)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Whipped Topping:

  • ½ cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1 tablespoon powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon butterscotch syrup
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Whipped Topping:

    • In a mixing bowl, beat the heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, butterscotch syrup, and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
    • Chill in the fridge while you prepare the drink.
  2. Make the Butterbeer:

    • In a small saucepan over low heat, melt the butter (if using) and mix in the butterscotch syrup and vanilla extract until smooth.
    • Slowly pour in the cream soda and stir gently to combine without losing carbonation. Warm until just heated through (for a hot version) or skip heating for a chilled version.
  3. Serve:

    • Pour the Butterbeer into mugs or glasses.
    • Top generously with the whipped cream mixture.
    • Drizzle with extra butterscotch syrup for a magical finishing touch.

Notes

  • Cold Butterbeer: Skip the heating step and serve the cream soda chilled over ice.
  • Frozen Butterbeer: Blend all the ingredients (except whipped cream) with ice for a slushy version.
  • Alcoholic Version: Add 1-2 oz of spiced rum, butterscotch schnapps, or vanilla vodka for an adult twist.
