Ingredients

Scale

Makes 1 martini:

  • 45 fresh blackberries (plus extra for garnish)
  • 1 1/2 oz (45 ml) vodka
  • 1 oz (30 ml) freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1/2 oz (15 ml) simple syrup (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 oz (15 ml) orange liqueur (e.g., Cointreau or Triple Sec)
  • Ice cubes
  • For garnish:
    • Lemon slice or twist
    • Blackberries
    • Sugar for rimming (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the glass (optional):
    • Rub a lemon wedge around the rim of a martini glass, then dip the rim into sugar to coat. Set aside.
  2. Muddle the blackberries:
    • In a cocktail shaker, add the blackberries and muddle them until they release their juices.
  3. Combine ingredients:
    • Add vodka, lemon juice, simple syrup, and orange liqueur to the shaker. Fill with ice cubes.
  4. Shake and strain:
    • Shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds to chill and mix the ingredients.
    • Strain the mixture into the prepared martini glass, using a fine-mesh strainer to remove the blackberry pulp if desired.
  5. Garnish and serve:
    • Garnish with a lemon slice, twist, or a skewer of blackberries. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For a slightly sweeter cocktail, increase the simple syrup to 3/4 oz.
  • Use frozen blackberries if fresh ones are not available; let them thaw slightly before muddling.
  • Experiment with flavored vodkas like lemon or berry for an extra layer of flavor.
