Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz pasta (penne, fusilli, or spaghetti)
  • 3 cups broccoli florets
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: lemon zest or juice for brightness

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook pasta according to package instructions.
  2. Add broccoli florets to the pot during the last 3–4 minutes of cooking. Drain and set aside, reserving 1/2 cup of pasta water.
  3. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add garlic and red pepper flakes (if using); sauté for 1–2 minutes until fragrant.
  4. Add cooked pasta and broccoli to the skillet. Toss to combine, adding a splash of reserved pasta water if needed to loosen.
  5. Stir in Parmesan cheese and season with salt and pepper.
  6. Finish with a sprinkle of lemon zest or a squeeze of lemon juice if desired, and serve warm.
