Ingredients
Scale
1/2 cup (115 g) unsalted butter
1 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 cup chocolate chips or chunks (optional)
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Continue cooking, stirring frequently, until it turns golden brown and smells nutty (about 5–7 minutes). Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
In a mixing bowl, combine the browned butter and sugar. Whisk in the eggs one at a time, then add vanilla extract.
Sift in the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder. Stir until just combined. Fold in chocolate chips if using.
Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
Let cool completely in the pan before slicing into squares.
Notes
For extra gooey brownies, slightly underbake by a minute or two.
Brown the butter carefully to avoid burning — it should be golden with a toasty aroma.
Top with a sprinkle of sea salt for a gourmet finish.
