These Brown Sugar Pork Chops are tender, juicy, and coated with a rich, caramelized glaze made with brown sugar and spices. This quick and flavorful dish is perfect for weeknight dinners or a simple yet impressive meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 bone-in or boneless pork chops (about 1-inch thick)
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp chili powder (optional, for a slight kick)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup chicken broth (optional, for extra sauce)

Instructions

1. Prepare the Pork Chops:

  1. Pat the pork chops dry with paper towels.
  2. In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar, garlic powder, smoked paprika, chili powder (if using), salt, and pepper.
  3. Rub the spice mixture evenly over both sides of the pork chops.

2. Cook the Pork Chops:

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the butter and let it melt.
  2. Once the butter is foamy, place the pork chops in the skillet. Cook for 3-4 minutes per side, until they develop a golden-brown crust.

3. Create the Sauce:

  1. If using chicken broth, pour it into the skillet to deglaze the pan, scraping up any browned bits.
  2. Let the liquid reduce slightly while basting the pork chops with the sauce for about 1-2 minutes.

4. Serve:

  1. Remove the pork chops from the skillet and let them rest for 5 minutes before serving.
  2. Spoon the caramelized sauce over the chops and serve warm.

Notes

  • Temperature Check: Use a meat thermometer to ensure the pork chops are cooked to an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C).
  • Thicker Cuts: For thicker pork chops, finish cooking in the oven at 375°F (190°C) for 5-7 minutes after searing.
  • Side Suggestions: Serve with mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, or a fresh green salad for a complete meal.
