Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work well)
  • 1 bag (11 oz / 311 g) soft caramels (about 35-40 caramels)
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream (or milk)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (to prevent browning)
  • Toothpicks or lollipop sticks

For Toppings (Optional):

  • Chopped nuts (e.g., peanuts, pecans, almonds)
  • Mini chocolate chips
  • Crushed graham crackers
  • Sprinkles
  • Melted chocolate (for drizzling)

Instructions

🍏 Prepare the Apples:

  1. Wash and Cut the Apples:

    • Wash and dry the apples thoroughly.
    • Cut the apples into 1-inch bite-sized pieces.
  2. Prevent Browning:

    • Toss the apple pieces with lemon juice to keep them from browning.
    • Pat the apples dry with a paper towel to help the caramel stick.
  3. Insert Sticks:

    • Insert a toothpick or lollipop stick into each apple piece.

🍬 Melt the Caramel:

  1. Prepare the Caramel:

    • In a microwave-safe bowl, combine unwrapped caramels and heavy cream.
  2. Melt the Caramel:

    • Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until smooth and fully melted (about 2 minutes).
  3. Let It Cool Slightly:

    • Allow the caramel to sit for 1-2 minutes to thicken slightly.

🍫 Dip and Decorate:

  1. Dip the Apple Bites:

    • Dip each apple piece into the caramel, letting excess caramel drip off.
  2. Add Toppings:

    • Immediately roll or sprinkle the caramel-coated apple bites with your choice of toppings.
  3. Set the Bites:

    • Place the coated apple bites on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  4. Cool and Set:

    • Refrigerate the caramel apple bites for 15-20 minutes to set the caramel.

🍽️ Serve:

  1. Plate and Enjoy:

    • Arrange on a serving platter or enjoy directly from the fridge.
  2. Serving Suggestions:

    • Great for parties, holiday desserts, or a sweet snack anytime.

Notes

  • Prevent Slipping: Dry the apples thoroughly to prevent the caramel from sliding off.
  • Storage: Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
  • Variation: Use white chocolate or dark chocolate for dipping instead of caramel.
