Caramel Apple Dumplings are a cozy, comforting dessert featuring tender apples wrapped in flaky pastry, baked in a buttery caramel sauce until golden and gooey—perfect for fall or holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large Granny Smith apples, peeled and cored
  • 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 2/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup apple cider or lemon-lime soda (like Sprite)
  • Optional: vanilla ice cream, for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Cut each apple into 4 wedges (8 total).
  3. Unroll crescent dough and separate into 8 triangles.
  4. Wrap each apple wedge in a crescent roll and place in the prepared dish.
  5. In a small saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla. Cook until smooth and bubbly.
  6. Pour the caramel mixture evenly over the dumplings.
  7. Pour apple cider or soda around the edges of the dumplings, not directly over them.
  8. Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until dumplings are golden brown and apples are tender.
  9. Let cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream if desired.

Notes

  • Granny Smith apples are best for their tartness and firm texture.
  • Lemon-lime soda creates a lighter, sweeter sauce; apple cider adds depth.
  • Can be made ahead and reheated in the oven at 300°F for 10–15 minutes.
  • Add chopped pecans to the sauce for extra crunch.
