Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450 g) breakfast sausage (mild or spicy)
  • 2 cups (200 g) shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 1/4 cups (150 g) Bisquick or another baking mix
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp dried parsley
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) whole milk
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted
  • 1/2 tsp Old Bay seasoning or another seafood seasoning (optional, for extra flavor)

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven:

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.

2. Prepare the sausage mixture:

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the sausage, cheddar cheese, Bisquick, garlic powder, onion powder, and parsley. Mix well using your hands or a sturdy spoon.
  • Add the milk and continue mixing until the dough comes together and holds its shape.

3. Shape the sausage balls:

  • Roll the mixture into 1-inch balls and place them on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 1 inch apart.

4. Bake:

  • Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until the sausage balls are golden brown and cooked through.

5. Brush with butter:

  • While the sausage balls are baking, mix the melted butter with the Old Bay seasoning (if using).
  • When the sausage balls come out of the oven, brush them with the seasoned butter for a flavorful finish.

6. Serve:

  • Serve warm as an appetizer, snack, or breakfast treat. Pair with ranch dressing, honey mustard, or marinara sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • For a spicier version, use hot sausage or add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the mixture.
  • You can make the sausage balls ahead of time and freeze them before baking. Bake directly from frozen, adding 5-7 minutes to the cooking time.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven or microwave.
