This cheesy bread is the ultimate comfort food! Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and topped with melted cheese, it’s perfect as a snack, appetizer, or side dish. Pair it with marinara sauce for dipping or serve it alongside your favorite meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf French bread or Italian bread, halved lengthwise
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (mozzarella, cheddar, or a blend)
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare the Garlic Butter:
    • In a small bowl, mix the softened butter, minced garlic, and Italian seasoning until well combined.
  3. Assemble the Bread:
    • Spread the garlic butter evenly over the cut sides of the bread.
    • Sprinkle the shredded cheese generously over the buttered bread, followed by the grated Parmesan cheese.
  4. Bake the Bread:
    • Place the bread halves on the prepared baking sheet, cheese side up. Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
    • For a golden, crispy top, broil the bread for 1–2 minutes, keeping a close eye to prevent burning.
  5. Garnish and Serve:
    • Remove the bread from the oven and sprinkle with fresh parsley if desired. Slice into pieces and serve warm.

Notes

  • Add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the garlic butter for a spicy kick.
  • Experiment with cheeses like Gruyère, Fontina, or Monterey Jack for different flavor profiles.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days and reheated in the oven.
