These Chicken Gyros with Feta Tzatziki are a Mediterranean delight featuring tender, marinated grilled chicken wrapped in warm pita bread with fresh vegetables and a creamy, tangy feta tzatziki sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 tbsp lemon juice
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 46 pita breads
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 tomato, sliced
  • 1/2 red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 cucumber, sliced
  • For the Feta Tzatziki:
  • 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 cup cucumber, grated and drained
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, oregano, cumin, salt, and pepper. Add chicken and coat well. Marinate for at least 1 hour or overnight.
  2. Preheat grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook chicken for 5–7 minutes per side or until fully cooked. Let rest before slicing.
  3. To make the feta tzatziki, combine Greek yogurt, grated cucumber, garlic, crumbled feta, olive oil, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Mix well and chill until ready to use.
  4. Warm pita breads in a skillet or oven.
  5. Assemble gyros by adding sliced chicken, lettuce, tomato, red onion, and cucumber to each pita. Top generously with feta tzatziki.
  6. Serve immediately, optionally with lemon wedges and extra tzatziki on the side.

Notes

  • Use a grill pan or outdoor grill for charred flavor on the chicken.
  • Drain grated cucumber well to avoid watery tzatziki.
  • Marinating overnight yields the most flavorful chicken.
  • Pita can be substituted with flatbread or naan if preferred.
