Chocolate Cheesecake Cake is an indulgent dessert combining rich, moist chocolate cake layers with a creamy cheesecake center, all covered in smooth chocolate frosting — the ultimate treat for chocolate lovers.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 box chocolate cake mix (plus ingredients listed on box: eggs, oil, water)
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional)
  • 2 cups chocolate buttercream frosting (homemade or store-bought)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C). Grease and line two 8-inch round cake pans with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, beat cream cheese, sugar, egg, and vanilla until smooth and creamy.
  3. Prepare chocolate cake batter according to box directions.
  4. Divide cake batter evenly between the two prepared pans. Drop spoonfuls of the cheesecake mixture over the cake batter in each pan and gently swirl with a knife. Sprinkle chocolate chips on top if desired.
  5. Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool cakes in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  6. Once cooled, place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of chocolate frosting on top.
  7. Top with the second cake layer and frost the top and sides with remaining chocolate buttercream.
  8. Decorate with extra chocolate shavings or sprinkles if desired. Chill for at least 1 hour before slicing for clean layers.

Notes

  • Make the cake a day ahead for best flavor and easy slicing.
  • Use homemade cheesecake for an extra-rich center.
  • Store leftovers covered in the fridge for up to 4 days.
