Ingredients

  • For the Chocolate Cups:

    • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips (or milk chocolate, if preferred)

    • Silicone or paper mini cupcake liners

  • For the Filling:

    • 2 cups whole milk

    • ½ cup heavy cream

    • 4 ounces semi-sweet chocolate, finely chopped

    • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder

    • 2 tablespoons sugar (adjust to taste)

    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • Toppings (Optional):

    • Mini marshmallows

    • Crushed candy canes

    • Whipped cream

    • Holiday sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Make the Chocolate Cups:
    • Melt the chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth.
    • Spoon a tablespoon of melted chocolate into each mini cupcake liner, spreading it evenly to coat the sides and bottom.
    • Place the liners on a baking sheet and refrigerate for 15–20 minutes, or until the chocolate hardens.
    • Once set, carefully peel away the liners, leaving chocolate cups. Set aside.
  2. Prepare the Hot Chocolate Filling:
    • In a medium saucepan, heat the milk and heavy cream over medium heat until steaming (do not boil).
    • Whisk in the chopped chocolate, cocoa powder, and sugar until smooth and fully melted.
    • Stir in the vanilla extract. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  3. Assemble the Hot Cups:
    • Pour the warm hot chocolate mixture into the prepared chocolate cups using a small ladle or spoon.
    • Top with mini marshmallows, crushed candy canes, whipped cream, or sprinkles for a festive touch.
  4. Serve:
    • Serve immediately with small spoons for scooping and sipping.

Notes

  • The chocolate cups can be made a day ahead and stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
  • Experiment with different chocolate types, like dark or white chocolate, for the cups.
  • For a spiked version, add a splash of peppermint schnapps or Bailey’s Irish Cream to the hot chocolate mixture.
