Christmas Cracker Candy, also known as “Christmas Crack,” is a simple and delicious holiday treat made with salty crackers, buttery caramel, and a layer of melted chocolate. It’s the perfect balance of sweet and salty and a must-have for your holiday dessert table!

  • 1 sleeve saltine crackers (about 40 crackers)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 cups semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup holiday sprinkles or crushed candy canes

Instructions

  1. Prepare the pan:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Line a 9×13-inch baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil, ensuring it overlaps the edges. Lightly grease with cooking spray.
    • Arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer on the baking sheet, covering the entire surface.
  2. Make the caramel:
    • In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the brown sugar and stir until combined. Bring to a boil and cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and turns a rich caramel color.
  3. Pour the caramel:
    • Carefully pour the hot caramel over the saltine crackers, spreading it evenly with a spatula to coat all the crackers.
  4. Bake:
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 5-7 minutes, or until the caramel is bubbly. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly.
  5. Add the chocolate:
    • Sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the hot caramel. Let them sit for 2-3 minutes to melt, then spread the chocolate into a smooth layer using a spatula.
  6. Decorate:
    • Immediately top with holiday sprinkles or crushed candy canes for a festive touch.
  7. Cool and break:
    • Allow the candy to cool completely at room temperature, or place it in the refrigerator for 1-2 hours to set. Once hardened, break it into pieces and serve.

Notes

  • Substitute saltines with graham crackers or Ritz crackers for a different flavor.
