Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ripe avocados, diced
  • 1 medium tomato, diced
  • 1/2 small red onion, finely chopped
  • 1 jalapeño, finely chopped (optional, for heat)
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • Juice of 2 limes (about 3 tablespoons)
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil (optional, for a silky texture)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Ingredients:
    • Dice the avocados, tomato, and red onion. Finely chop the jalapeño (if using) and cilantro.
  2. Combine in a Bowl:
    • In a medium mixing bowl, gently toss together the avocado, tomato, red onion, jalapeño, and cilantro.
  3. Add the Dressing:
    • Drizzle with lime juice and olive oil (if using). Sprinkle with salt and black pepper. Toss gently to coat, being careful not to mash the avocado too much.
  4. Serve and Enjoy:
    • Serve immediately with tortilla chips, as a topping for tacos or burrito bowls, or alongside grilled chicken or fish.

Notes

  • For a spicier salsa, leave the seeds in the jalapeño or add a pinch of cayenne pepper.
  • This salsa is best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 1 day in an airtight container. To minimize browning, press plastic wrap directly onto the surface of the salsa before sealing.
  • Add a teaspoon of minced garlic or a pinch of ground cumin for extra flavor.
