Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 slices thick bread (like brioche or Texas toast)

  • 3 large eggs

  • 1/2 cup whole milk

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar

  • Pinch of salt

  • Butter or oil, for cooking

  • Maple syrup, for serving (optional)

Instructions

  • Prep the Bread:
Cut each slice of bread into 3–4 thick strips.

  • Make the Batter:
In a shallow bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, sugar, and a pinch of salt.

  • Dip the Sticks:
Dip each bread strip into the egg mixture, coating all sides. Let any excess drip off.

  • Cook:
Heat a large nonstick skillet or griddle over medium heat and add a bit of butter or oil. Cook the sticks for about 2–3 minutes per side, turning to brown all sides evenly.

  • Serve:
Serve warm with maple syrup, powdered sugar, or fresh fruit.

Notes

  • Use day-old or slightly stale bread for best results—it soaks up the batter without getting soggy.

  • To make ahead, freeze cooked sticks in a single layer, then store in a freezer bag. Reheat in a toaster oven or air fryer.

  • Add a dash of nutmeg to the batter for extra spice.
