Condensed Milk Flan is a rich, creamy, and smooth caramel custard dessert made with sweetened condensed milk, eggs, and vanilla, topped with a glossy caramel layer. It’s a classic and beloved Latin dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (for caramel)
  • 1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 (12-ounce) can evaporated milk
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup whole milk (optional, for slightly thinner consistency)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the sugar until it turns into a golden caramel. Quickly pour the caramel into a round 9-inch cake pan or flan mold, tilting to coat the bottom evenly. Set aside to cool and harden.
  3. In a blender, combine sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, eggs, vanilla extract, and whole milk (if using). Blend until smooth.
  4. Pour the milk mixture over the cooled caramel in the pan.
  5. Place the flan pan inside a larger baking dish and add hot water to the outer dish to create a water bath.
  6. Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until the center is set but still slightly jiggly.
  7. Remove from the oven and let cool to room temperature. Then refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  8. To serve, run a knife around the edge of the flan, invert onto a plate, and let the caramel sauce flow over the top.

Notes

  • Be careful when working with hot caramel, as it can cause burns.
  • Use a blender or whisk to ensure a smooth custard mixture.
  • Chilling the flan overnight enhances the flavor and texture.
