A light and refreshing layered dessert inspired by the classic orange creamsicle — fluffy cake, creamy orange pudding, and whipped topping come together for an easy crowd-pleasing trifle.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 prepared angel food cake or pound cake, cut into cubes
  • 1 (3.4 oz) box instant vanilla pudding mix
  • 1 1/2 cups cold milk
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 1 (8 oz) container whipped topping, thawed
  • 1 (11 oz) can mandarin oranges, drained (optional for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together vanilla pudding mix, milk, orange juice, and orange zest until smooth. Let it sit for 5 minutes to thicken.
  2. Gently fold in half of the whipped topping until fully combined.
  3. In a large trifle dish or glass bowl, layer half of the cake cubes, followed by half of the orange pudding mixture.
  4. Repeat with remaining cake and pudding layers.
  5. Spread the remaining whipped topping on top and garnish with mandarin oranges if desired.
  6. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before serving to allow flavors to meld.

Notes

  • For extra orange flavor, add a splash of orange extract or more zest.
  • Use store-bought or homemade cake.
  • Best served the same day for the fluffiest texture.
