Creamy Tomato Basil Chicken is a rich and comforting dish featuring tender chicken breasts simmered in a creamy tomato sauce infused with garlic, basil, and Parmesan. Perfect served over pasta, rice, or with crusty bread.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1 cup tomato sauce or crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil (or 1 tablespoon dried basil)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: red pepper flakes for a bit of heat

Instructions

  1. Season chicken breasts with salt and pepper.
  2. Heat olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  3. Add chicken and sear for 5–6 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove from skillet and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add garlic and cherry tomatoes. Cook for 2–3 minutes until tomatoes begin to soften.
  5. Stir in tomato sauce and bring to a simmer.
  6. Reduce heat to low, then add heavy cream and Parmesan cheese. Stir until smooth and creamy.
  7. Return chicken to the skillet and spoon sauce over the top. Simmer for 5 minutes to meld flavors.
  8. Stir in fresh basil just before serving. Adjust seasoning as needed.
  9. Serve warm with your choice of pasta, rice, or vegetables.

Notes

  • Use boneless thighs for a juicier variation.
  • Double the sauce for extra coverage if serving with pasta.
  • Fresh basil adds brightness, but dried basil works in a pinch.
