Ingredients

Scale

Serves 4

  • For the apple fries:
    • 3 large apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled and sliced into wedges
    • 1/2 cup (60 g) all-purpose flour
    • 2 large eggs
    • 1 cup (100 g) breadcrumbs (panko or regular)
    • 1/4 cup (50 g) granulated sugar
    • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • For the dipping sauce:
    • 1/2 cup (120 ml) caramel sauce or vanilla yogurt
    • A sprinkle of cinnamon (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the apple slices:
    • Peel and core the apples, then slice them into evenly sized wedges. Pat them dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture.
  2. Set up the breading stations:
    • Place the flour in one shallow bowl.
    • In a second shallow bowl, beat the eggs.
    • In a third bowl, mix the breadcrumbs, sugar, and cinnamon.
  3. Coat the apple slices:
    • Dip each apple wedge into the flour, shaking off the excess.
    • Next, dip it into the beaten eggs, ensuring it is fully coated.
    • Finally, press the apple wedge into the breadcrumb mixture, coating it completely. Repeat with all apple slices.
  4. Air fry the apple fries:
    • Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 3 minutes.
    • Arrange the coated apple slices in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Cook in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding.
    • Air fry for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
  5. Serve:
    • Serve the apple fries warm with caramel sauce or vanilla yogurt for dipping. Sprinkle with extra cinnamon if desired.

Notes

  • Use a firm apple variety like Granny Smith for a tart flavor or Honeycrisp for a sweeter taste.
  • For a gluten-free version, substitute flour and breadcrumbs with almond flour and gluten-free breadcrumbs.
  • Adjust the sweetness by using less sugar in the breading mixture or omitting it entirely.
