Crockpot Chicken and Gravy is a comforting, savory dish that’s perfect for an easy dinner. Tender, juicy chicken slow-cooked in a rich, creamy gravy pairs beautifully with mashed potatoes, rice, or biscuits.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 2 lbs / 900 g)
  • 2 cups (500 ml) chicken broth
  • 2 packets (1 oz / 28 g each) chicken gravy mix
  • 1 can (10.5 oz / 300 g) cream of chicken soup
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika (optional)
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) sour cream or heavy cream (optional, for added creaminess)

For serving:

  • Mashed potatoes, rice, or biscuits
  • Fresh parsley, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the chicken and gravy

  1. Place the chicken breasts in the bottom of your crockpot.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the chicken broth, gravy mix packets, cream of chicken soup, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and paprika (if using).
  3. Pour the gravy mixture over the chicken, ensuring it’s well-coated.

Step 2: Cook the chicken

  1. Cover and cook on low for 6-7 hours or on high for 3-4 hours, until the chicken is tender and easily shreds with a fork.

Step 3: Shred the chicken

  1. Remove the chicken from the crockpot and shred it using two forks. Return the shredded chicken to the crockpot and stir it into the gravy.

Step 4: Add creaminess (optional)

  1. Stir in sour cream or heavy cream for a richer gravy, if desired. Cook on low for an additional 15-20 minutes.

Step 5: Serve

  1. Serve the chicken and gravy over mashed potatoes, rice, or biscuits. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

Notes

  • Make-ahead option: Prep the ingredients the night before and store them in the crockpot insert in the refrigerator. In the morning, set the crockpot to cook.
  • Leftovers: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat on the stovetop or in the microwave, adding a splash of chicken broth if needed.
  • Customization: Add mushrooms, peas, or carrots for extra vegetables in the dish.
