Dandelion Hot Chocolate is a rich, earthy twist on the classic cozy drink. Using roasted dandelion root instead of coffee or cocoa alone, this recipe offers a naturally caffeine-free and detox-friendly beverage with deep, roasted flavor and a chocolaty finish. Perfect for sipping on chilly mornings or winding down at night.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy)

  • 1 tsp roasted dandelion root (loose or in a tea bag)

  • 1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 12 tsp honey or maple syrup (to taste)

  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract

  • Pinch of cinnamon (optional)

  • Pinch of sea salt (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, warm the milk over medium heat until hot but not boiling.

  2. Add roasted dandelion root. Let steep for 5–10 minutes (longer for stronger flavor), stirring occasionally.

  3. Strain out the dandelion root or remove the tea bag.

  4. Whisk in the cocoa powder, sweetener, vanilla, and any optional spices.

  5. Heat gently for another 1–2 minutes, whisking until smooth and steamy.

  6. Pour into a mug and enjoy!

Notes

  • You can roast your own dandelion root at home by washing, chopping, and roasting at 350°F for 10–15 minutes until dark brown and fragrant.

  • Add a splash of coconut milk for extra creaminess.

  • Great as a coffee alternative or evening treat.
