Dulce de Leche made with condensed milk is a sweet, creamy caramel-like sauce that’s perfect for drizzling over desserts, spreading on toast, or using as a filling. It’s made by slowly heating sweetened condensed milk until it transforms into a rich golden treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Pour the sweetened condensed milk into a shallow baking dish (like a pie plate).
  3. Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil.
  4. Place the covered dish in a larger roasting pan and fill the outer pan with hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the inner dish.
  5. Bake for 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours, or until the milk has thickened and turned a deep golden color. Check water level occasionally and refill as needed.
  6. Remove from oven, uncover, and whisk until smooth. Let cool before using or storing.

Notes

  • Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
  • For a stove-top version, simmer an unopened can of condensed milk in water for 2–3 hours, keeping the can fully submerged at all times.
  • Use as a filling for cakes, cookies, or pastries, or drizzle over pancakes, ice cream, or churros.
