These soft, fluffy, and buttery dinner rolls are super easy to make and perfect for any meal! With just a few simple ingredients, you can have fresh, homemade rolls that are golden on the outside and pillowy on the inside.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 ¼ tsp (1 packet) active dry yeast or instant yeast
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ¾ cup warm milk (110°F / 45°C)
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg

For Brushing:

  • 2 tbsp melted butter
  • Flaky sea salt (optional)

Instructions

Step 1: Activate the Yeast

  1. In a small bowl, mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy. (Skip this step if using instant yeast.)

Step 2: Make the Dough

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt.
  2. Add yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg. Mix until a sticky dough forms.
  3. Knead by hand for 8-10 minutes or with a stand mixer dough hook for 5-6 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Step 3: First Rise

  1. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise in a warm place for 1-1½ hours, or until doubled in size.

Step 4: Shape the Rolls

  1. Punch down the dough and divide it into 12-15 equal pieces. Shape into smooth balls and place in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Cover and let rise again for 30-45 minutes, until puffy.

Step 5: Bake & Serve

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Brush the rolls with melted butter and bake for 18-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
  3. Remove from oven and brush with more melted butter. Sprinkle with flaky salt if desired.
  4. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • For extra soft rolls, use bread flour instead of all-purpose flour.
  • Want a richer flavor? Substitute half the milk with buttermilk.
  • Make-ahead option: Refrigerate the dough overnight before baking.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for 3 days or freeze for 3 months.
