This Easy Teriyaki Chicken Recipe features tender, juicy chicken glazed in a sweet and savory homemade teriyaki sauce—ready in under 30 minutes and perfect for serving over rice or noodles.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh grated ginger
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water
  • Optional: sesame seeds and chopped green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. Cut chicken into bite-sized pieces if desired. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add chicken and cook for 5–7 minutes, turning occasionally, until browned and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add soy sauce, brown sugar, honey, rice vinegar, garlic, and ginger. Stir and bring to a simmer.
  4. Stir in the cornstarch slurry and simmer for 1–2 minutes, or until the sauce thickens.
  5. Return chicken to the skillet and toss to coat evenly in the sauce. Simmer for another 1–2 minutes until heated through.
  6. Serve over steamed rice or noodles. Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions if desired.

Notes

  • Use low-sodium soy sauce to control saltiness.
  • This recipe works well with chicken thighs for juicier meat, but breasts can also be used.
  • Add steamed broccoli or bell peppers for a full meal.
