Flan de Queso is a rich and creamy variation of traditional flan, made with cream cheese for an extra smooth and indulgent texture. This caramel-topped custard dessert is a popular treat in many Latin American households.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (for caramel)
  • 1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 (12-ounce) can evaporated milk
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the sugar until it turns a deep golden color. Quickly pour the caramel into a 9-inch round cake pan or flan mold, tilting to coat the bottom evenly. Set aside to harden.
  3. In a blender, combine sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, eggs, cream cheese, and vanilla extract. Blend until smooth and creamy.
  4. Pour the cream cheese mixture over the set caramel in the pan.
  5. Place the flan pan in a larger baking dish and fill the outer dish with hot water to create a water bath.
  6. Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until the center is set but still slightly jiggly.
  7. Remove from oven, let cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  8. To serve, run a knife around the edges of the flan, invert onto a serving plate, and let the caramel drizzle over the top.

Notes

  • For best results, ensure cream cheese is fully softened before blending to avoid lumps.
  • The water bath prevents cracking and helps achieve a silky texture.
  • Can be made a day ahead and kept chilled until ready to serve.
