Ingredients

Scale

For the casserole:

  • 6 large croissants, torn into chunks
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups (480 ml) milk
  • 1 cup (240 ml) heavy cream
  • ½ cup (100 g) granulated sugar
  • ½ cup (100 g) brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

For the topping:

  • ½ cup (65 g) all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup (100 g) brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ cup (60 g) unsalted butter, cold and cubed

Optional:

  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)
  • Maple syrup (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the baking dish:
    • Grease a 9×13-inch (23×33 cm) baking dish. Spread the torn croissant pieces evenly in the dish.
  2. Make the custard mixture:
    • In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, brown sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until well combined.
  3. Soak the croissants:
    • Pour the custard mixture evenly over the croissants, pressing down gently to ensure all the pieces are soaked. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best results.
  4. Preheat the oven:
    • When ready to bake, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Prepare the topping:
    • In a medium bowl, mix the flour, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or fork until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  6. Assemble and bake:
    • Sprinkle the topping evenly over the soaked croissants. Bake uncovered for 40-45 minutes, or until the casserole is set and the top is golden brown.
  7. Serve:
    • Let the casserole cool for 10 minutes before serving. Dust with powdered sugar and serve with maple syrup if desired.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add fresh berries or chocolate chips between the croissant layers.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven or microwave.
