Fried ice cream is a delicious dessert featuring a scoop of ice cream that’s coated in a crunchy shell and briefly deep-fried to create a warm, crispy exterior while keeping the inside cold and creamy.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 quart vanilla ice cream
  • 2 cups cornflakes, crushed
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Whipped cream, for topping (optional)
  • Honey or chocolate syrup, for drizzling (optional)
  • Maraschino cherries, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Scoop ice cream into 6-8 balls and place on a baking sheet. Freeze for at least 1 hour until very firm.
  2. Mix crushed cornflakes and cinnamon in a shallow bowl.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk eggs and milk together.
  4. Dip each ice cream ball into the egg mixture, then roll in the cornflake mixture. Repeat coating if desired for extra crunch. Freeze again for at least 2 hours or until very firm.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C).
  6. Carefully fry each ice cream ball for 10–15 seconds until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain briefly on paper towels.
  7. Serve immediately, topped with whipped cream, syrup, and a cherry if desired.

Notes

  • Double-coating helps insulate the ice cream better during frying.
  • Make sure ice cream balls are very firm before frying to prevent melting.
  • Try different ice cream flavors and coatings like cookie crumbs or graham crackers for variety.
