Fried Jalapeños are crispy, spicy snacks made by coating sliced jalapeños in a seasoned batter or breading and deep frying them until golden brown. They’re perfect as an appetizer, party snack, or bold side dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 810 fresh jalapeños, sliced into rings and seeds removed (optional for less heat)
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornmeal or breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Optional: ranch or chipotle dipping sauce

Instructions

  1. Soak sliced jalapeños in buttermilk for at least 15 minutes to mellow the heat and help coating stick.
  2. In a shallow bowl, mix flour, cornmeal (or breadcrumbs), garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  3. Heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil in a deep skillet or pot to 350°F (175°C).
  4. Remove jalapeños from buttermilk, letting excess drip off. Dredge in the flour mixture to coat thoroughly.
  5. Fry in batches for 2–3 minutes or until golden and crispy. Do not overcrowd the pan.
  6. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  7. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • For extra crunch, double-dip jalapeños by repeating the buttermilk and coating steps.
  • Wear gloves when handling jalapeños to avoid irritation.
  • Use pickled jalapeños for a tangy variation.
  • These are best served immediately but can be reheated in an air fryer or oven.
