Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb button or cremini mushrooms, cleaned and stems trimmed
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 1/2 cups breadcrumbs (Panko for extra crunch)
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

For Serving:

  • Ranch dressing, garlic aioli, or marinara sauce

Instructions

1. Prepare the Mushrooms:

  • Wipe mushrooms with a damp paper towel to clean them.
  • If mushrooms are large, cut them in half; leave smaller ones whole.

2. Set Up the Breading Station:

  • In a bowl, mix flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  • In another bowl, whisk eggs with milk.
  • In a third bowl, combine breadcrumbs and grated Parmesan cheese (if using).

3. Bread the Mushrooms:

  • Coat each mushroom in the seasoned flour, shaking off excess.
  • Dip into the egg mixture, then coat with the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere.
  • Place breaded mushrooms on a plate and repeat with remaining mushrooms.

4. Heat the Oil:

  • Pour oil into a large pot or deep skillet to a depth of about 2 inches.
  • Heat the oil to 350°F (175°C).

5. Fry the Mushrooms:

  • Fry mushrooms in batches for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
  • Avoid overcrowding the pan.
  • Use a slotted spoon to transfer fried mushrooms to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

6. Serve:

  • Serve the mushrooms hot with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • For an extra kick, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or chili powder to the flour mixture.
  • You can bake these mushrooms in the oven at 400°F (200°C) for 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  • Leftovers can be reheated in an air fryer to restore their crispiness.
