Garlic Parmesan Orzo is a creamy, flavorful side dish made with tender orzo pasta, sautéed garlic, and freshly grated Parmesan cheese. It’s a quick and easy dish that pairs perfectly with chicken, seafood, or vegetables.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup orzo pasta
  • 2 cups low-sodium chicken broth
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream (optional, for extra creaminess)
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, heat olive oil and butter over medium heat. Add garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  2. Stir in orzo and cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently, until lightly toasted.
  3. Add chicken broth, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to a simmer. Cover and cook for 10-12 minutes, or until orzo is tender and liquid is mostly absorbed.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in Parmesan cheese and heavy cream if using. Mix until creamy and well combined.
  5. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve warm.

Notes

  • Substitute vegetable broth for a vegetarian version.
  • Double the recipe to serve a crowd or for meal prep.
  • Great as a base for grilled chicken or shrimp.
  • Leftovers can be reheated with a splash of broth or milk to maintain creaminess.
