A comforting and nostalgic one-pot American goulash recipe made with ground beef, elbow macaroni, tomatoes, and simple seasonings, just like Grandma used to make.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 1 1/2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 2 cups elbow macaroni, uncooked
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
  • Chopped parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain excess fat if needed.
  2. Add diced onion and garlic, and sauté for 2–3 minutes until softened.
  3. Stir in tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  4. Bring to a boil, then stir in the uncooked elbow macaroni.
  5. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until pasta is tender and most liquid is absorbed.
  6. If using, stir in shredded cheddar cheese until melted and creamy.
  7. Garnish with chopped parsley before serving, if desired.

Notes

  • Use ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
  • Add diced bell peppers or mushrooms for extra veggies.
  • This dish reheats well and can be frozen for later meals.
