Fun and kid-friendly hot dogs wrapped in grilled cheese—melty cheddar in golden, buttery bread around juicy frankfurters, perfect for a playful twist on comfort food.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 hot dog buns or 8 slices of sandwich bread
  • 4 hot dogs
  • 8 slices cheddar cheese (or cheese of choice)
  • 2 tbsp butter, softened
  • Optional toppings: ketchup, mustard, relish, diced onions

Instructions

  1. If using buns: slice each bun lengthwise without cutting through completely. Otherwise, use bread slices.
  2. Place 2 cheese slices inside each bun (or fold bread around hot dog with cheese inside).
  3. Insert a hot dog into each cheese-lined bun, pressing gently.
  4. Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat and spread butter on the outside of each bun or bread-wrapped hot dog.
  5. Grill hot dogs, butter-side down, for about 2–3 minutes until golden and cheese begins melting. Flip and grill the other side about 2 minutes, pressing gently for even toasting.
  6. Once bread is golden and cheese is fully melted, remove from heat.
  7. Serve with your favorite condiments and enjoy immediately while hot and cheesy!

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, grill with a panini press or press with a spatula.
  • Try alternative cheeses like pepper jack, Swiss, or mozzarella for different flavors.
  • Add bacon: wrap cooked bacon around the hot dog before grilling.
  • To make ahead: assemble and wrap in foil, then grill just before serving.
  • Use whole wheat or gluten-free bread to suit dietary needs.
