Hawaiian Sweet Bread Strata is a rich and comforting breakfast casserole made with fluffy sweet bread, eggs, cheese, and savory add-ins like ham and pineapple for a delicious island-inspired twist.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf Hawaiian sweet bread, cubed (about 6 cups)
  • 1 1/2 cups cooked diced ham
  • 1 cup crushed pineapple, drained
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley (optional)

Instructions

  1. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish and add cubed sweet bread, ham, pineapple, and cheese.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  3. Pour egg mixture evenly over the bread mixture in the dish.
  4. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or overnight to allow bread to soak.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Uncover the dish and bake for 45–50 minutes, or until the center is set and top is golden brown.
  7. Let sit for 5–10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with parsley if desired and serve warm.

Notes

  • Letting the strata sit overnight improves texture and flavor.
  • You can substitute bacon or sausage for ham if preferred.
  • Great for holiday brunches or make-ahead breakfasts.
