Holiday Yam Bake is a warm, sweet, and buttery side dish that’s perfect for Thanksgiving, Christmas, or any festive gathering. Made with tender yams, brown sugar, butter, and warm spices, this comforting dish is topped with either crunchy pecans or gooey marshmallows for the ultimate holiday treat.

For the Yam Mixture:

  • 4 cups cooked yams or sweet potatoes, mashed
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp salt

For the Pecan Topping:

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans

Instructions

1. Preheat Oven & Prepare Dish:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease a 9×9-inch baking dish (or similar size).

2. Make the Yam Mixture:

  • In a large bowl, mix mashed yams, brown sugar, melted butter, milk, eggs, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until smooth.
  • Pour into the prepared baking dish.

3. Prepare the Pecan Topping:

  • In a separate bowl, mix brown sugar, flour, softened butter, and chopped pecans until crumbly.
  • Sprinkle evenly over the yam mixture.

4. Bake Until Golden:

  • Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden and slightly crisp.

5. Serve & Enjoy!

  • Let cool slightly, then serve warm as a perfect holiday side dish!

Notes

Make It Marshmallow-Topped: Add mini marshmallows during the last 5 minutes of baking.
Nut-Free Version: Skip pecans and use an oat crumble topping instead.
