Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 cup white vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)

Instructions

1. Combine Ingredients:

  1. In a small saucepan, combine ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, vinegar, water, mustard, lemon juice, soy sauce, and brown sugar.
  2. Add the minced garlic, onion powder, black pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using).

2. Cook the Sauce:

  1. Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle boil, stirring occasionally.
  2. Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring frequently, until it thickens slightly and the flavors meld.

3. Cool and Store:

  1. Remove the sauce from heat and let it cool completely.
  2. Transfer to a jar or airtight container and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving to allow the flavors to develop further.

Notes

  • Storage: Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
  • Adjust Sweetness: Add more brown sugar for a sweeter sauce, or reduce it for a tangier version.
  • Customizations: Add a dash of hot sauce for extra spice or a teaspoon of smoked paprika for a smoky flavor.
