Ingredients
Scale
4 cups whole milk (or 2% for lighter option)
2 tbsp plain yogurt with live cultures (for starter)
2–3 tbsp honey or maple syrup (adjust to taste)
1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
1/2 to 1 cup fruit of choice (berries, mango, banana, etc., optional)
Instructions
Heat the milk in a saucepan over medium heat until it reaches 180°F (82°C), then remove from heat.
Let the milk cool to about 110°F (43°C). Stir in the plain yogurt starter until fully blended.
Pour the mixture into a clean jar or container and cover loosely. Let it incubate in a warm place for 6–10 hours or until thickened and tangy.
Refrigerate the yogurt for at least 4 hours to chill and set.
For drinkable yogurt, blend 1 cup of the homemade yogurt with 1/4 cup water or milk to thin, sweetener, vanilla, and fruit if desired.
Blend until smooth and adjust sweetness or consistency as preferred.
Store in sealed bottles or jars in the fridge for up to 5 days. Shake before serving.
Notes
Use a thermos or yogurt maker for consistent incubation temperature.
For extra probiotic benefits, don’t overheat the starter culture.
Blend with oats or chia seeds for added nutrition.
