Homemade Hoisin Sauce is a rich, sweet, and savory Asian condiment made from simple pantry ingredients. Perfect for stir-fries, marinades, or as a dipping sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp peanut butter or black bean paste
  • 1 tbsp honey or maple syrup
  • 2 tsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tsp Chinese five spice powder
  • 1 tsp sriracha or other chili sauce (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine all ingredients: soy sauce, peanut butter (or black bean paste), honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, minced garlic, five spice powder, and sriracha (if using).
  2. Whisk until smooth and fully combined.
  3. Taste and adjust flavor as needed – more honey for sweetness, more vinegar for tang.
  4. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.

Notes

  • Use smooth peanut butter for a silkier texture.
  • Black bean paste gives a more traditional flavor if available.
  • Great as a glaze for meats or a dipping sauce for spring rolls.
