This fresh and flavorful Homemade Salsa is perfect for dipping tortilla chips or as a topping for tacos, burritos, and more. Made with ripe tomatoes, zesty lime, and fresh cilantro, it’s quick to prepare and always a crowd-pleaser!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 medium ripe tomatoes, diced (about 2 cups)
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 12 jalapeños, seeded and finely chopped (adjust for spice level)
  • ¼ cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • Juice of 1 lime (about 2 tablespoons)
  • ½ teaspoon ground cumin (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper (optional)
  • 1 (14.5 oz) can diced tomatoes (optional, for extra sauciness)

Instructions

  1. Mix Ingredients:
In a large bowl, combine the diced fresh tomatoes, onion, garlic, jalapeños, and cilantro.
  2. Add Seasonings:
Stir in the lime juice, cumin (if using), salt, and black pepper. Mix well.
  3. Adjust Flavor:
Taste and adjust seasonings, adding more lime juice, salt, or jalapeños as desired.
  4. Blend (Optional):
For a smoother salsa, blend half or all of the mixture in a food processor or blender to your desired consistency.
  5. Chill and Serve:
Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. Serve with tortilla chips or as a topping for your favorite dishes.

Notes

  • Tomatoes: For the best flavor, use ripe, in-season tomatoes. Roma or vine-ripened tomatoes work well.
  • Add Heat: For extra spice, use serrano peppers instead of jalapeños or leave in the seeds.
  • Storage: Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
