Ingredients
Scale
1 lb ground beef
1/2 medium onion, finely diced
1/2 green bell pepper, finely diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup tomato sauce
1/4 cup ketchup
2 tbsp tomato paste
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tbsp brown sugar
1 tsp yellow mustard
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
4 hamburger buns, toasted
Instructions
In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain excess grease if needed.
Add diced onion, bell pepper, and garlic. Cook for 3–4 minutes, until vegetables soften.
Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, salt, and pepper. Mix well to combine.
Reduce heat to low and simmer for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens.
Spoon the sloppy joe mixture onto toasted buns and serve warm.
Notes
Swap ground beef for ground turkey or plant-based crumbles for a lighter option.
Serve with pickles, coleslaw, or chips for a classic pairing.
Leftover filling can be refrigerated for up to 3 days or frozen for later.
