  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk, cold
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter (for glaze)
  • 1 tablespoon honey (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or fork until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  5. Turn dough onto a floured surface and gently knead a few times. Pat into a 1-inch thick rectangle.
  6. Cut biscuits using a round cutter and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  7. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. While biscuits are baking, mix melted butter and 1 tablespoon honey for the glaze.
  9. Brush hot biscuits with honey butter glaze immediately after removing from the oven.
  10. Serve warm.

Notes

  • For extra flaky biscuits, freeze butter cubes for 10 minutes before using.
  • Do not overmix the dough to avoid tough biscuits.
  • These biscuits are great with breakfast or as a side with soups and stews.
