Ingredients

Scale

Serves 4:

  • For the chicken:
    • 1 lb (450 g) chicken breast or thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
    • 1/3 cup (40 g) all-purpose flour
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
    • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • For the honey garlic sauce:
    • 1/4 cup (60 ml) honey
    • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
    • 2 tablespoons water
    • 2 garlic cloves, minced
    • 1/2 teaspoon ginger, minced or grated (optional)
    • 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 2 teaspoons water
  • For garnish:
    • Sesame seeds
    • Chopped green onions

Instructions

  1. Prepare the chicken:
    • In a bowl, combine the flour, salt, and pepper. Toss the chicken pieces in the mixture until evenly coated.
  2. Cook the chicken:
    • Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
    • Add the chicken in a single layer (work in batches if necessary) and cook for 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown and cooked through. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Make the sauce:
    • In the same skillet, add the garlic (and ginger, if using) and sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant.
    • Stir in the honey, soy sauce, and water. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
  4. Thicken the sauce:
    • Add the cornstarch slurry (cornstarch mixed with water) to the skillet. Stir well and let the sauce thicken, about 1-2 minutes.
  5. Coat the chicken:
    • Return the cooked chicken to the skillet and toss to coat it evenly in the sauce. Cook for 1-2 minutes to warm the chicken and ensure it’s well glazed.
  6. Serve:
    • Transfer the chicken to a serving dish. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions. Serve immediately with steamed rice, noodles, or veggies.

Notes

  • For a spicy kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes or sriracha to the sauce.
  • You can substitute chicken with shrimp, tofu, or bite-sized pork for a variation.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently on the stovetop or microwave.
