Fun, smoky, caramelized hot dog cubes inspired by classic burnt ends—great as a budget-friendly appetizer for BBQ gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1624 beef hot dogs
  • 2 Tbsp yellow mustard
  • 2 Tbsp BBQ rub
  • 4 Tbsp butter
  • 1/41 cup brown sugar
  • 1/21 cup BBQ sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat smoker to 225°F or oven to 350°F.
  2. Coat hot dogs with mustard and BBQ rub.
  3. Smoke or bake hot dogs for about 1 hour until slightly crispy and colored.
  4. Slice hot dogs into 1–1.5 inch pieces and place in a foil pan.
  5. Add butter, brown sugar, and BBQ sauce to the pan and mix well.
  6. Increase temperature to 375–400°F and cook for 15–40 minutes, stirring occasionally, until caramelized.
  7. Serve hot with toothpicks or in slider buns.

Notes

  • Use beef hot dogs for best texture and flavor.
  • Adjust sweetness and sauce level to preference.
  • Can be made indoors using a conventional oven.
  • Great as party appetizers or game day snacks.
  • Leftovers can be stored and reheated in an air fryer or oven.
