A savory and satisfying chili made with ground beef, beans, tomatoes, and bold spices, perfect as a topping for hot dogs or as a stand-alone dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (15 oz) kidney or pinto beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup beef broth or water
  • 2 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until no longer pink. Drain excess fat.
  2. Add chopped onion and garlic; cook until soft and fragrant, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Stir in tomato sauce, tomato paste, beef broth, chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, pepper, and cayenne if using.
  4. Add beans and stir well to combine.
  5. Simmer on low heat for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.
  6. Serve warm over hot dogs or store for later use.

Notes

  • Chili can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or frozen for longer storage.
  • Adjust spice levels to taste by varying the chili powder and cayenne.
  • Use lean ground beef or turkey for a lighter version.
  • Optional toppings: shredded cheese, chopped onions, or pickled jalapeños.
