Hot Honey Fried Shrimp is a spicy-sweet dish featuring crispy fried shrimp drizzled with a homemade hot honey sauce. Perfect as an appetizer or main, it’s bold, crunchy, and irresistibly flavorful.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • For the Hot Honey:
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 12 tsp hot sauce (adjust to taste)
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, marinate shrimp in buttermilk for at least 15 minutes.
  2. In another bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).
  4. Remove shrimp from buttermilk, dredge in flour mixture, pressing to coat evenly.
  5. Fry shrimp in batches for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
  6. In a small saucepan, warm honey, hot sauce, and red pepper flakes over low heat until blended. Do not boil.
  7. Drizzle the hot honey over fried shrimp or serve on the side as a dip.
  8. Serve immediately with lemon wedges or your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Use panko breadcrumbs for extra crunch if preferred.
  • Adjust the heat level of the honey by changing the hot sauce amount.
  • Pairs well with coleslaw or a simple green salad.
